Vietnamese billionaires are winning big in the agricultural sector

(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) - Every month, Duc's Hoang Anh Gia Lai brings in hundreds of billions of dong in revenue by selling pigs, bananas, durians... Many 'big men' also earn billions from the agricultural sector.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai of Bau Duc earns hundreds of billions every month from selling pigs, bananas, and durian. As a large enterprise in the agricultural sector, the business results of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company (stock code HAG) attract the attention of investors.

Updating the business situation in August, Hoang Anh Gia Lai said net revenue was 660 billion VND. Regarding consumption output, Hoang Anh Gia Lai sold more than 32,580 pigs and 30,900 tons of bananas.

In mid-September, the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) temporarily stopped exporting a number of batches of bananas, jackfruit, durian... to China due to quarantine violations, making many investors of Hoang Anh Gia Lai worried.

Ms. Vo Thi My Hanh - deputy general director of Hoang Anh Gia Lai - immediately spoke up: "The company's banana exports to China are still going on normally, without any restrictions or problems. In addition, durian has also finished harvesting its first crop, so there is no more goods to export."

At the recent investor meeting conference, Chairman Doan Nguyen Duc also said that he is focusing on three core areas "one child - two trees", which are raising pigs, growing bananas and durian. The durian segment alone has a profit of up to 80%.

"Fiercely revive the company for the sake of personal honor and shareholders," Mr. Duc expressed at the conference.

In the first half of the year, Hoang Anh Gia Lai brought in revenue of more than 3,140 billion VND, an increase of 55% over the same period last year. Minus capital price and expenses, the business retains net profit after tax of nearly 405 billion VND.

Currently, Hoang Anh Gia Lai is still under pressure from accumulated losses of more than 2,940 billion VND. Total assets increased slightly compared to the beginning of the year, to more than 21,340 billion VND.

Agreeing to help Mr. Duc overcome difficulties, billionaire Tran Ba Duong accepted to "embrace" Hoang Anh Gia Lai International Agriculture Joint Stock Company (HAGL Agrico, code HNG).

In the first half of this year, the business reaped 278 billion VND in revenue, down 23% compared to the same period last year. Despite having an after-tax loss of more than 240 billion VND, it still changed positively compared to the loss at the same time last year.

This year the business expects banana, pineapple, mango and grapefruit output to reach a total of nearly 128,960 tons. Rubber alone is expected to reach more than 10,310 tons.

As of mid-year, HAGL Agrico's total assets increased slightly to more than 13,100 billion VND. Enterprises have liabilities of more than 10,300 billion VND and accumulated losses of more than 7,240 billion VND.

To revive HAGL Agrico, billionaire Duong is implementing a large-scale agricultural production strategy on an organic foundation, industrial management throughout the value chain, applying mechanization, biotechnology and digitalization according to an appropriate roadmap.

Not only steel business, Hoa Phat Group (HPG) of billionaire Tran Dinh Long also ventures into raising and selling pigs, Australian cows, chicken eggs...

Financial reports show that in the second quarter, the business achieved 29,800 billion VND in revenue (-21%), of which the agricultural sector only contributed about 1,480 billion VND - the lowest in four years. Minus the cost price, the remaining net profit after tax is 1,450 billion VND (-64%).

Closing the books for the first half of this year, Hoa Phat recorded 56,665 billion in revenue and more than 1,830 billion in net profit after tax, far from the yearly plan.

Regarding the decline in the agricultural sector, Hoa Phat explained that it was due to reduced consumption, high cost of capital due to the conflict in Ukraine, China's "zero COVID-19" policy, high inflation in the world...

Specializing in the production of animal feed, livestock breeds, poultry, food processing..., Dabaco Group (DBC) of tycoon Nguyen Nhu So has impressive business results, reaching more than 3,470 billion in net revenue and net profit of nearly 330 billion in the last quarter, 23 times higher than the same period last year.

However, due to heavy losses in the first quarter of the year, the total profit for the first half of this year was only 6 billion VND, down 73% over the same period last year.

Although still facing difficulties, in general many "giants" in the agricultural industry still reaped hundreds of billions of profits in the first half of this year such as PAN Group (267 billion VND), or Loc Troi Group (345 billion VND)...
