(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) – After many years of deep decline, green coffee prices this year skyrocketed. In Lam Dong, green coffee reached 129,000 VND/kg. At this price, coffee farmers make big profits.
At the end of November and early December, coffee farmers in Dam Rong district, Lam Dong province enter the harvest season with great joy. The price of fresh coffee in this locality is 24,000-25,000 VND/kg, while green coffee reaches 129,000 VND/kg, bringing a significant source of income for people.
Mr. Hoang Van Tien, a coffee farmer in Dam Rong district, said the weather this year is quite favorable, helping coffee grow well and achieve high productivity. In particular, the price of green coffee this year reached a record high in many years.
"At the beginning of the 2023 crop season, the price of green coffee reached 80,000 VND/kg and continuously increased. By this crop season, the price has exceeded 100,000 VND and is currently 129,000 VND. The rising price helps coffee growers stabilize their lives and have capital to reinvest," Mr. Tien shared.
In Ro Men commune, Dam Rong district, Mr. Nguyen Dang Hau's family is hiring more workers to harvest coffee on an area of 1 hectare.
Mr. Hau said, all coffee is ripe and needs to be harvested within 1 week to avoid fruit loss. Because the garden is far from the center, his family decided to sell fresh coffee immediately after harvest for 24,500 VND/kg.
Mr. Lieng Hot Ha Hang, residing in Da Long commune, expects to collect over 3.5 tons of coffee beans from his family's 1.5 hectare garden. "At the current price, my family can earn nearly 400 million VND," he shared.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dam Rong district, the district's current coffee area is over 12,500 hectares, with the total coffee bean output in the 2024 crop estimated at nearly 38,000 tons. To improve product quality and value, this unit recommends that people limit harvesting green fruits.
In 2025, Dam Rong district will support and guide people to use high-quality varieties to renovate over 500 hectares of old, low-yield coffee.
The total coffee area of Lam Dong province is currently over 176,000 hectares, with a total output of over 572,000 tons.
In 2023, Lam Dong exported over 70,000 tons of green coffee to markets such as Italy, India, Korea, the Netherlands... with a total value of about 155 million USD.
