(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) - Will coffee prices increase today when farmers are just harvesting and pruning, and the US is strongly increasing purchases of Vietnamese coffee?
This afternoon (October 13), international coffee floors in London (UK) and New York (USA) will open for trading.
Previously, the weekend trading session closed the price of Robusta for delivery in November 2025 currently at 4,480 USD/ton. Arabica price delivered in December 2025 reached 8,220 USD/ton.
Domestically, the average coffee price is around 113,800 VND/kg and gardeners always expect today's coffee price to increase.
However, this price is still quite good compared to the beginning of last year's crop but lower than farmers' expectations. Last season, coffee prices stood around 130,000 VND/kg for a long time.
Vietnam's coffee harvest begins in October and ends in January of the following year. The two peak months are November and December. Currently, farmers are just harvesting and pruning, mainly selling fresh coffee to dealers for drying.
Normally, when the season comes, coffee prices tend to decrease. However, this year the price may remain stable or increase slightly because Robusta is cheaper than Arabica, so it is more popular in the market.
The US increased imports suddenly
According to customs data, in the first 9 months of 2025, Vietnam exported nearly 1.24 million tons of coffee, an increase of 11.7% over the same period last year.
In September alone, the amount of Vietnamese coffee exported to the US reached 5,528 tons, up 81% compared to August and up 163% over the same period in 2024.
In total, in 9 months, the US imported 70,834 tons of Vietnamese coffee, worth 387.6 million USD. Compared to the same period, it increased by 10.2% in volume and up to 65% in value.
The US is currently Vietnam's 6th largest coffee import market, after Germany, Italy, Spain, Algeria and Japan.
From August 2025, the US will impose reciprocal taxes on many products. Vietnamese coffee is subject to a tax of 20%, while Brazilian coffee is taxed up to 50%. Thanks to this advantage, US importers are strongly shifting to buying Vietnamese coffee.
