Coffee prices started to increase

(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) - Closing yesterday's trading session on April 30, the coffee market continued to become a bright spot in the industrial raw materials group when coffee supply continued to be limited.

Closing the trading session on April 30, the July contract Arabica coffee price on the New York floor increased slightly by 0.24%, to 8,835 USD/ton. Meanwhile, Robusta coffee's July contract on the London floor recorded an increase of 1.34%, reaching 5,369 USD/ton.

The two coffee products continue to maintain record high prices, mainly due to basic information showing that Arabica supply is still limited.

According to records from the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), Brazil's average daily export of unroasted coffee (Arabica and Conillon) in April reached about 7,920 tons, down 26.62% over the same period last year. For roasted coffee, extracts and related products, average daily exports in April reached about 941 tons, down 6% compared to the April 2024 average.

In addition, the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) forecasts that Vietnam's coffee exports will continue to grow in the short term thanks to abundant domestic supply. However, in the long term, Vietnam's coffee exports may face many challenges when domestic supply is expected to decline at the end of the harvest season.

The amount of certified washed Arabica coffee stored on the New York floor on April 30 increased by 1,057 bags of 60kg, equivalent to an increase of 0.13%, to 813,668 bags. Of which, 752,591 bags are stored in Europe, accounting for 92.5% of the total inventory, with the remaining 61,077 bags stored in the US. Notably, 452,520 bags, equivalent to 55.6% of registered coffee, are Brazilian Arabica. The amount of coffee awaiting grading on May 1 is 83,416 bags.

On the domestic market, the price of green coffee in the Central Highlands on April 30 was recorded at an average of 130,800 VND/kg, unchanged from the previous session. Specifically, coffee prices in Dak Lak and Dak Nong reached 130,800 VND/kg, Gia Lai 130,700 VND/kg and Lam Dong 130,200 VND/kg.

The Vietnam Commodity Exchange said that selling pressure continued to dominate the world raw material market in the trading session on the last day of April. Closing, the MXV-Index decreased more than 1.6% to 2,160 points.
