Business in the digital age: Sell dozens of tons of agricultural products in just a few hours

(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) - Without having to spend money on renting space, now thanks to technology, rural youth can sell dozens of tons of agricultural products after just a few hours of livestream. From there, it not only solves the problem of "a good season loses value, a good price loses a season" but also brings much higher income than before.

Sold 10 tons of plums in just 2 and a half hours

Bui Van Toan (22 years old) was born and raised in a farming family in a remote, isolated mountainous area of Co Noi commune, Mai Son district (Son La). After finishing 12th grade, Toan quit school to help his parents.

My family grows more than 1,000 plum trees, and the family's income depends entirely on it. However, every year there is a good harvest, the value will decrease and vice versa. When I saw my parents losing food and sleep trying to find a way to feed their plums, I told myself I had to do something," Toan shared.

Therefore, after completing high school, this guy went around wholesale markets from North to South to find wholesale sources of plums. Toan said: "Even though I went to the markets in the South to find an outlet for plums, the quantity sold was not much. Furthermore, due to the long distance, there were many risks during the transportation process: broken vehicles, accidents... caused the plums to be damaged, and some trips had to incur losses."

Not only that, Toan said that when selling to traders, the price is often forced. "The price was unstable, even though the price was forced, I still had to sell it in the hope of getting as much as I could. There was a time when the price of plums dropped dramatically so my family planned to cut them all down to grow other types of trees," Toan recalled.

Unable to sit idly by and witness the price of plums being squeezed by traders and his income unstable, Toan decided to find another direction for agricultural products. After a period of research, in February 2023, Toan officially "fell in love" with livestreaming sales on the TikTok platform.

"Where I live is in the mountains, quite far from town, so access to the internet is limited. However, I noticed that many people sell through livestreams so I wanted to try," the young man said. Toan said the first week of the livestream there were no viewers, so he couldn't sell anything. However, he was not discouraged. "Instead of sitting at home, I went to the plum garden to livestream. When I got home from work at noon, everyone took the opportunity to rest, and I went to the garden to livestream. Many people saw that and said I was crazy and did something unlike anyone else. But luckily thanks to that, my channel started to have viewers, at first a few dozen people, then up to several thousand people," Toan happily recounted.

The young man excitedly shared that a live session lasting 2 and a half hours sold about 10 tons of plums, earning nearly 200 million VND. "My house's plum garden harvests about 35 - 40 tons each season. If before it was not sold for a whole month, now it takes about a week to sell it all. Therefore, after selling all of my house's plums, I will livestream to help nearby people. Normally in the middle of the plum season, traders only buy for about 12,000 - 13,000 VND/kg, but since selling through livestream, the price of plums has increased gradually. 19,000 - 20,000 VND/kg," Toan said.
