(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) - Contrary to the gloomy picture of many industries, from the beginning of the year until now many agricultural products have recorded new records, with high export turnover and selling prices.
Vegetables, tubers, and fruits take the throne
According to data just announced by the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association based on calculations from the customs agency, in 9 months fruit and vegetable exports are estimated to reach 4.1 billion USD, up nearly 70% over the same period last year, and 24% higher than the whole of 2022.
Among the fruit and vegetable groups, durian, banana, and dragon fruit contributed greatly to growth. In particular, durian became a craze that attracted a lot of attention when it rose from the 4th position in the fruit group to the top in exports, surpassing both bananas and dragon fruit to join the group of billion-dollar fruits. This "king of fruit" contributes up to 30% of the total turnover of the fruit and vegetable industry, and is expected to soon reach 1.5 billion USD next month.
In addition to vegetables and fruits, the latest statistics from the General Department of Customs also show that, as of September 15, rice exports reached 6.1 million tons with about 3.3 billion USD, up 22% in volume and up 36.1% in value compared to the same period last year. Vietnam's rice export price has set a record in the past 11 years and reached the highest level in the world.
The average in 8 months is estimated at 542 USD/ton, up 11.5% over the same period last year. This is a record that Vietnam's rice industry achieved thanks to the ongoing global food fever.
The Vietnam Food Association said that from now until the end of the year, the rice market will increase as Indonesia has just announced the opening of bids for 300,000 tons of 5% broken white rice from countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan and Cambodia. The Philippines - Vietnam's largest rice buyer has just sent delegations to negotiate to buy Vietnamese rice when the country's demand is still high.
According to forecasts, if the current growth momentum continues, this year Vietnam's rice export turnover will definitely reach 4 billion USD, the highest milestone in the past 10 years.
Coffee "rising"
These days, coffee exports also stir up the agricultural market. As of September 15, coffee exports reached 1.2 million tons (down more than 5%), but turnover reached more than 3 billion USD, up 5%. Notably, Vietnam's export coffee price recorded a record level in 30 years when the eight-month average reached 2,463 USD/ton, an increase of 8.9% over the same period last year.
According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, coffee prices are continuously increasing because supply is not enough to meet demand. This year's coffee output is forecast to decrease by 10-15%/year due to unfavorable weather. However, coffee exports for the whole year will reach about 1.7 million tons, with an export turnover of 4.2 billion USD, the highest ever.
Another billion-dollar export product of the agricultural industry that is also shining upstream is cashew nuts. As of September 15, cashew exports reached nearly 421 thousand tons, an increase of about 15%, with a turnover of more than 2.4 billion USD, an increase of about 9%.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) said that by the end of August, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover reached 33.2 billion USD, down 9.5%.
To complete the agricultural, forestry and fishery export target of 54 - 55 billion USD, the ministry will continue to monitor and grasp the price situation and supply of essential food items, reporting to the Domestic Market Steering Group and the Government's Price Steering Committee; At the same time, coordinate with localities to support connection and promote processing and consumption of agricultural products during the harvest season.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development promotes the development of domestic consumption and export markets, continuing to handle market issues to create favorable conditions for exporting agricultural and aquatic products to China, the US, Europe, the Eurasian economic union, taking advantage of free trade agreements...
