Excited when agricultural product prices increase

(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) - The prices of durian, coffee and many other agricultural products have increased, making farmers' lives much easier.

All this month, Mr. Truong Ngoc Loi, a farmer in Cu M'gar District (Dak Lak), has been working hard all day in the garden, so he often misses phone calls, but every time his relatives contact him, they can feel the joy when this year's agricultural products prices increase. Mr. Loi shared: "Last month, I harvested durian. My garden only had 500 kg but the selling price was high. After receiving the money, I immediately bought a motorbike for my daughter to go to school. In the past few days, it is the turn to harvest coffee. This year the price of coffee is quite high, it is expected that this crop my garden can earn 400 million VND. I plan to spend half a quintal of coffee on this occasion to travel and visit relatives in Ho Chi Minh City."

Mr. Hoang Van Hong's family, living in H. Krong Pac (Dak Lak), has planted 1 hectare of durian since 2016, this year's output is estimated at 20 - 25 tons. Mr. Hong shared that this year's price is nearly twice as high as the durian season in 2022. The weather is favorable, so most farmers are productive and have a good harvest. With the selling price at the garden of 83,000 VND/kg, his family earned a profit of about 1.5 billion VND.

Mr. Han Ngoc Can, Director of Doan Ket Agricultural Service and Trade Cooperative, Buon Ho town, Dak Lak province, said the cooperative has 84 participating members, an area of 120 hectares, this year's durian output is about 2,000 tons, an average of 15 - 20 tons/ha. Traders and companies came to buy in large numbers, the closing price at the beginning of the season ranged from 80,000 - 90,000 VND/kg, making people very excited.

The cashew warehouse of HSV VIETNAM GROUP JOINT STOCK COMPANY always meets large quantities with strict requirements for export to foreign markets.

The joy of a good harvest and good price this year spreads throughout the Central Highlands. The durian harvest in Dak Lak, Gia Lai only has about 10 days left to end. Normally, durian prices increase at the beginning of the season and decrease at the end of the season, but this year the price has always stood at over 80,000 VND/kg from the beginning of the season until now.

Talking to Thanh Nien, Mr. Vu Duc Con, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province - Chairman of the Dak Lak Durian Association, acknowledged: "Overall, the local agricultural industry can confirm that the 2023 durian crop has won big compared to every year, the area and output have increased sharply and the purchasing price at the end of the season is still high. The effectiveness of the durian tree is most clearly visible. In the near future, Dak Lak farmers will begin harvesting coffee, hoping that the chain of good harvests and good prices will last for farmers in the Central Highlands." According to Mr. Vu Duc Con, coffee prices are currently quite high, but if compared in terms of absolute value, durian trees are still "unmatched".

On October 13, although the price of green coffee continued to decrease by 400 - 500 VND/kg, the average coffee price in the Central Highlands provinces still fluctuated around 63,200 VND/kg. Many coffee growing households said this price is about 25% higher than last year. The price of fresh coffee in some areas that are harvesting early is sold at prices ranging from 10,000 - 11,000 VND/kg.

The West is also happy

After the durian harvest in Dak Lak, durian growing areas in the West and Southeast also began to bear fruit. Durian prices in this area are not much different from those in the Central Highlands, the most obvious difference is in the purchasing method. Having many years of experience in cooperation, the harvest in the Western region is more organized and orderly, without "inflating prices" to compete for buying and selling. For Thai durian, the selling price of good quality varieties on weekends is 80,000 - 86,000 VND/kg. Similarly, Thai durian purchased in buckets also recorded stability, currently being purchased by traders at 70,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. Beautifully selected Ri6 durian costs about 55,000 - 59,000 VND/kg and bucket Ri6 durian costs about 45,000 - 52,000 VND/kg. According to farmers' production calculations, the price of cultivating 1 kg of durian ranges from 12,000 - 18,000 VND for grade A, so farmers selling at the garden only need to sell for up to 40,000 VND to make a profit. Some gardeners predict durian prices will remain high, especially at the end of the year when the Chinese market begins to enter the holidays.

Farmers in the West are excited because the rice harvest is good and the price is good

Besides the joy of a good durian crop, Western farmers are also excited because of the high price of rice from the beginning of the year until now. Remembering this time last year, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dep, a rice farmer at

H.Ke Sach (Soc Trang), said: "When working with rice, the price often goes up and down, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. Last year, almost all rice farmers lost money because of high fertilizer prices and low selling prices. But this year, rice planting "hit" from the beginning of the year. People with small fields like me still make a profit of tens of millions per crop, hoping that rice prices can be maintained so that farmers can suffer less."

Rice prices as of yesterday (October 13) still showed no signs of cooling down. In the An Giang area, the price of IR 504 rice fluctuates around 7,900 - 8,100 VND/kg; OM 5451 rice ranges from 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg; OM 18 rice is at 7,900 - 8,100 VND/kg; Nang Hoa 9 costs 8,200 - 8,300 VND/kg; Fresh fragrant 8 leaves 7,800 - 8,100 VND/kg; Nhen Nhen (dried) 15,000 VND/kg... Rice prices are currently quite high, so traders in many areas have a waiting mentality, many traders stop buying and observe the market.

Durian, rice, and coffee are products with rapid export growth and high selling prices. In the past 2 months, Vietnam has provided the world market with nearly 1.8 million tons of rice, contributing to both ensuring world supply and bringing economic benefits to rice growers. Accumulated in the first 9 months of 2023, the whole country has exported 6.6 million tons of rice, the turnover reached 3.66 billion USD, an increase of 40.4% over the same period last year, the highest in the 34-year rice export history.
