(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) – US steel imports from Vietnam hit a nearly three-year high in August, at 139,800 tons due to higher volumes of galvanized steel, according to data from the US Department of Commerce.
Nearly half of that – 65,200 tons – was hot-dip galvanized coil products, along with 38,100 tons of other metal-coated flat steel products.
Another driver of increased volumes was the increase in pipe products, specifically oil and gas steel pipe products (OCTG), which reached 11,100 tons in August.
Vietnam, along with nine other countries, is currently under investigation by the Department of Commerce's International Trade Commission (ITC) for allegedly selling certain corrosion-resistant steel (CORE) products into the US at prices below fair market value.
As of August 2024, the countries under investigation had shipped 2.39 million tons of CORE products to the US, of which Vietnam accounted for 565,400 tons, according to data from Global Trade Tracker.
