Coffee exports hit nearly 5 billion USD thanks to record price increases

(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) – In the first 5 months of 2025, Vietnam's coffee export turnover reached about 4.78 billion USD, a sharp increase of 65.3% over the same period in 2024, although output only increased slightly by 0.9% to 834,000 tons. This is an outstanding result recently announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

The main driving force for this breakthrough growth comes from the average export price reaching 5,726 USD/ton, the highest level in the history of Vietnam's coffee industry.

This price movement reflects the general trend of the global market, as supply continues to shrink due to the impact of prolonged drought in key producing countries such as Brazil and Vietnam. Meanwhile, consumer demand in major markets such as Europe, America and Asia increased significantly.

Notably, Arabica coffee and deeply processed coffee are the segments that contribute the most to added value.

Domestic businesses have taken advantage of free trade agreements (FTAs) and promoted processing activities to increase added value. Key export markets include Germany, Italy, the US and Japan; Mexico alone recorded spectacular growth, importing coffee from Vietnam reached over 71 million USD, 55 times more than the same period last year.

The coffee industry continues to be a bright spot in the picture of agricultural, forestry and fishery exports, as the entire industry reached a total turnover of 28.04 billion USD, an increase of 15.4%. Of which, agricultural products reached 14.76 billion USD (up 27.7%), forestry products reached 6.93 billion USD (down 9.9%), aquatic products reached 3.64 billion USD (up 6.5%) and livestock reached 199 million USD (up 4.8%).

Vietnam's coffee export price set a record peak of more than 5,800 USD/ton

Some other agricultural products also recorded growth thanks to high prices: pepper increased by 41.5% in value although output decreased by nearly 17%; cashew nuts increased by more than 20%; rice reached 2.65 billion USD, an increase of 38%, thanks to expanding market share in the Philippines, Indonesia and China. In contrast, vegetables and tea recorded a decrease of 7.8% and 6%, respectively, due to low export prices and sluggish demand in the Chinese market.

Regarding imported inputs, the total import value of products serving production such as fertilizers, animal feed and pesticides reached 21.56 billion USD, down 5% over the same period. Thanks to that, the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector achieved a trade surplus of nearly 6.5 billion USD, an increase of 64.5%.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment commented that the export growth trend is gradually being restored.

Businesses have proactively adjusted their product structure, increased deep processing and effectively taken advantage of incentives from free trade agreements, contributing to strengthening the position of Vietnamese agricultural products in the global market.
