Exports of rice, coffee, vegetables and fruits increased sharply, Vietnam earned nearly 10 billion USD in 2 months

(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) – In the first 2 months of this year, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports reached nearly 10 billion USD, a sharp increase over the same period last year.

On the morning of February 29, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien informed the press about the results of agricultural production and export in the first 2 months of 2024.

According to Mr. Tien, in the first 2 months of the year, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is estimated at 9.84 billion USD, up 50% over the same period last year. Trade surplus was 2.68 billion USD, an increase of nearly 2.9 times.

Export turnover increased sharply thanks to an increase in export commodity groups. Contributing to this result were agricultural products of 5.18 billion USD, forest products of 2.9 billion USD (these two commodity groups increased by nearly 60%), and seafood of 1.37 million USD (an increase of 29%).

Most key products achieved a higher export value than the previous year, such as wood products 1.68 billion USD (up 59%), coffee 1.38 billion USD (up 85%), vegetables and fruits 970 million USD (up 73%), rice 708 million USD (up 50%), cashew nuts 595 million USD (up 68%), shrimp 403 million USD (up 20%). Pangasius alone is 224 million USD (down nearly 1%).

The average export price of some agricultural products also increased, such as the average export price of rice at 699 USD/ton, up 32% over the same period last year. Coffee price is 3,153 USD/ton (up 45%), rubber is 1,429 USD/ton (up 3.4%), pepper is 4,041 USD/ton (up 29%)...

"These are very favorable and positive beginnings in a year when the agricultural industry strives to reach 54-55 billion USD in exports" - Mr. Tien said.

According to Mr. Tien, in the first 2 months of 2024, the export market structure will change when the US accounts for the largest proportion (2.1 billion USD), the Chinese market is second (2.065 billion USD). Next are the Japanese and Philippine markets, while Korea falls to fifth. The European market accounts for 42%.

"From the market structure, we can see that the quality of our agricultural products can meet high-end markets. For example, in the US and Europe, we have had a very good start, this shows that the recovery of the markets as well as the restructuring of the agricultural industry has been linked more closely to the market" - Mr. Tien said.

Mr. Tien said that in addition to the markets of China, America, Japan, EU..., in the coming time the ministry will focus on exporting agricultural, forestry and fishery products to Halal, Middle East, African markets...

"The Ministry is directing De Hues Group to focus on exporting chicken meat to the Halal market. It is expected that next May, the group will sign cooperation agreements with the first two countries for export. In addition, the ministry has also directed the fisheries industry to focus on promoting and opening the Halal market.

Although we have exported to many markets and trade promotion has been effective, we must enter difficult markets with special characteristics so that Vietnam's agricultural products can reach many segments and markets to earn more export revenue" - Mr. Tien added.
