(HSV VIETNAM GROUP) - The US spent more than 113 million USD to import Vietnamese iron and steel in the first month of the year, reaching more than 139,000 tons, an increase of 419% in volume and more than 361% in value compared to the same period last year.
From the beginning of the year to February 15, the volume and value of iron and steel exports increased by 65% and 66.2%, respectively, over the same period last year.
According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs (Ministry of Finance), in the first half of February (February 1 - 15), the whole country exported 377,858 tons of iron and steel of all kinds, worth 269.5 million USD.
The above results bring the total amount of iron and steel exported from the beginning of the year to February 15 to nearly 1.54 million tons, worth nearly 1.1 billion USD. Thus, compared to the same period in 2023, the volume and value of iron and steel exports increased by 65% and 66.2%, respectively. The top export markets of Vietnam's iron and steel at the beginning of the year were Italy, the US and Malaysia with all quite impressive export growth.
Specifically, updates from the General Department of Customs until the end of January showed that, compared to the same period last year, iron and steel exports to Italy reached 203,000 tons, an increase of 114%; Iron and steel exports to Malaysia reached 120,000 tons, an increase of 625%. With the US market, exports reached more than 139,000 tons, worth more than 113 million USD, an increase of 419% and more than 361%, respectively.
In the first month of the year, the US continued to be Vietnam's largest export market in general with a total value of 10.05 billion USD, an increase of 64% (equivalent to an increase of 3.91 billion USD) over the same period last year.
In January, there were 4 export groups to the US with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more, including: phones and components; computers, electronic products and components; machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts; textile.
